We didn’t have to wait long for the other reinforcements to arrive. The next arrivals showed up only about an hour after we introduced Lady Sela the battle axe wielding stone angel warrior to the In-Between soldiers. We figured it would take some time for them to get used to her. Little did we know, our next guests would be even more… let’s say, unconventional.

They were ancient warrior spirits housed in the bodies of metal Amazon sculptures from an art park that was apparently close by. Each of them were around fifteen feet of solid gray metal. Their arms and legs rippled with perfectly contoured muscles. Somehow, their hair floated lightly, curling around their head and shoulders, even though it was also metal, as far as I could tell. Their eyes burned a bright white. Sheets of copper metal had been forcefully pounded and bent into vaguely Roman-style armor for extra protection, even though I was pretty sure their smooth metal skin was protection enough. They were dramatic, feisty, and highly dangerous. Erik and I sat next to each other on a boulder to watch the trio introduce themselves to the soldiers.

“I am Selotri,” said the first. I took her to be the leader. She seemed to be the most sensible and collected of the three. “I have lived through many ages of men and honed my skills of strategy. My fighting is an art form- precise, powerful, and perfectly timed.”

As Selotri gracefully stepped back and sat down, the next warrior came forward. This one seemed to be permanently in a ready stance, and fire burned in her bronze eyes. “I am Toreto!” She proclaimed. I saw a couple of soldiers flinch as her voice echoed off of the rocks. “My spirit was forged in fire and war. The demons will have nothing from me except steel and ruin!”

The final member of the trio stepped forward with a flourish. “Well said, my sister! I am Thedrane. Long years have I watched the stars. Dark would be my dreams if their silver light were snuffed out! And so I will fight to preserve the great beauty in this world and beyond!”

As the soldiers politely applauded, I exchanged a bemused glance with Erik. Gabriel, Esther, Elijah, and Kyrra came over to join us. “Well, let’s hope they’re as enthusiastic in their fighting as they are in their speeches,” Elijah said with a wry smile.

Suddenly, one of our scouts rushed over. “Gabriel!” He settled himself and continued in a more business-like tone. “A large force of demons is amassing in a field about halfway between here and our original camp. This is the largest force they’ve put together yet!”

He had barely finished speaking when the Tebbit twins burst in from the opposite direction. “Help!” Sam shouted.

“The trees-” panted Tim, nearly tripping over his brother.

“They’re-”

“Coming-”

“To life!” They finished together as they came to a screeching halt in front of Esther.

“Perfect timing,” she replied coolly.

Gabriel smiled at her and then turned to the army and our new arrivals.
